We generally try to have the average order shipped within 48 hours of order placement. There are however, many exceptions. Typical flintknapping supplies and other 'ready' in stock items will go out immediately. If an item or otherwise significant portion of your order is on backorder temporarily, then we will hold your order until we can ship the entire order, rather than passing on two separate shipping charges to the customer. Finished weaponry and finished stone work may take up to 3 weeks for shipment, though this is not typical as we try to keep everything in stock. If you are under time constraints, please let us know and we will try our best to speed up your order processing and give you options for accelerated shipping options. If you have not heard from us and have not received your order within two weeks of order placement, please contact us by email at info@goknapping.com.

Our shipping quotes are determined by the actual sum of the weights of each of the items in your order. This weight, along with the dimensions of the items you have chosen are then ran through the UPS system to get the most accurate shipping quote as possible. The quote you are given is the actual charge that we incur to ship the order to you. UPS bases their quotes on a variety of things including how far your package will have to travel, whether or not it can travel part of the way by air, and how far away your house is from the UPS receiving station in your local area. Fuel surcharges also are added in when gas prices are exceptionally high. Alaska, Hawaii, and International orders will receive a very costly quote from UPS since they are not in the lower 48 states. In most cases we ship USPS when shipping out of the lower 48 states, and you will not be charged the quoted the UPS rate shown during checkout.

We prefer UPS because they have competitively priced rates and also provide a detailed tracking system for any shipment through them. We do occasionally use United States Postal Service for orders that would otherwise be much more expensive to ship through the other carriers because of their size/weight/location. International shipping, packages going to Alaska and Hawaii, and all orders going to PO Boxes will be shipped through USPS. If you have any particular preference, please notify us with your order or by email at info@goknapping.com.

No, we do not sell items that would be considered artifacts and do not in any way portray our own replicas as being artifacts. GoKnapping.com sells materials for people to experience history and the skills of prehistoric man to keep these things alive not only in mind but in practice.

A replica is defined as 'a duplicate of an original artistic work'. Among other things, GoKnapping.com sells replica weaponry spanning from prehistory to the final days of the Fur Trade Era. There are no authentic artifacts for sale on this site. There are components of some of our replicas that are antique or old but are not to be confused with artifacts (including antique beads) . We also sell supplies for the public to make their own replicas.

No, we do not suggest that anyone use our specimen weaponry in the actual field. We say this because primitive weaponry behaves much differently than modern weaponry and what most of us are used to. Stone bladed knives cannot be dropped on a concrete floor or even in most cases hard packed sand or dirt. Unspined primitive arrows do not have the consistency of carbon and may break and injure the shooter. Animal hide glue is a great adhesive and historically accurate but is not remotely close to being as durable and permanent as modern epoxies on the market today. However, our weaponry is sharp and are capable of inflicting fatal injuries to would be aggressors both human and wild animal. PLEASE, store and display all of your primitive weaponry responsibly in suitable locations as too not have any accidents. Remember that stone flakes have the potential to be sharper than anything man has been able to forge including surgical scalpels. Proper caution is a must.

We strongly suggest storing/displaying any finished primitive weaponry purchased from us in a stable, climate controlled area. Natural adhesives and hafting such as sinew and animal hide glue do not react well to being exposed to humidity and intense sunlight/heat. After some time and handling, your weapon may lose some of its mellow polish. We suggest using some type of wax (flooring), or oil (not motor oil) to restore and maintain the finish on your piece as if you just received it from us. Be very conservative in application of whatever substance you decide to use. Test on an area and buff off with a light non abrasive cloth and you should be just fine.

All of our skill building kits require close adult supervision. In the process of flintknapping very sharp shards of stone are produced, as well as stone dust. Proper hand protection, eye protection, and ventilation are necessities of flintknapping. Flintknapping outdoors is an easy way to avoid breathing excessive silica dust. We generally think that ages 16 and up are generally OK as long as they have a good common sense and can take directions and instruction well. Anyone flintknapping must pay attention to not cutting themselves and breathing much of the dust produced from the hobby. Please be responsible when using and gifting these kits. |
